Choosing Music for Your Ceremony

Which parts of the wedding ceremony do we need to pick music for?
Most Wedding Ceremonies will have places for music at:
- The Entrance of the Bride
- The Signing of the Register (1-2 songs)
- The End of the Ceremony
Depending on your service, there may also be room for songs:
- As guests are gathering
- At the beginning of the service
- During the readings (sometimes a psalm can be sung instead of said)
- During the Liturgy of the Word, Offertory and Communion in some church ceremonies
If I am having a church service, do I chose hymns or love songs?
Ultimately, you will need to run your song selections by the celebrant who is marrying you, but in general most celebrants allow:
Love Songs (or secular - non religious songs) at:
- The Processional (where the bride walks down the aisle)
- The Signing of the Registry (where the bridal party sign the legal documents)
- The Recessional (where the bride and groom leave the church)
If your service is a Catholic Mass, it is suggested that hymns be chosen for:
- Offertory and
- Communion
and may also be selected in the place of
- The Responsorial Psalm
- The Gospel Acclamation
- The Parts of the Mass
